Self Reflection after Each Completed Project

April 22, 2011 Leave a comment

Every time I completed one project, I reflected on what I have learnt and tell myself that I will be alot better than I was when I am doing the next project so that there will always be a better project each time after each project has been completed.

Don’t let your player wait!

April 1, 2011 Leave a comment

Letting your player wait for things to happen is like dropping them off halfway through the game, especially when your game gets too hard to load or doesn’t present a visual cue for the player to carry on with the game. Either your player gets confused cos nothing is happening on the screen, or the visual cues you presented are far too tiny to be noticed.

No one draws from imagination

April 1, 2011 Leave a comment

I quote the above from one of my professors in one of the modules he taught me. He was asking the class if there is anything in particular which we would like him to share with us. I raised my hand and asked if he could teach us drawing, character design to be specific. Then in the middle of the discussion I triggered, he gave me a piece of advice, “no one draws from imagination” which I totally agree.

When you were still a small kid, the teachers will always tell you to imagine when you draw. The imaginations that we all have are really only memories of the things we saw in the past and by imagining, we are merely taking those things we saw as references for our works. A combination of references is what gives images a new look. If you need an example, just imagine putting a pan in the hands of a warrior in a modern day airport

Let’s continue the party!

Hey people, I have taken down the artwork under jasonpoh.com (and jasonpoh.com as well). For you people who wish to see what this work is about, here’s the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSSxe3q98NQ

As of today, I will still continue to blog about new media stuffs, and the narrative as well. I love new media! Its the future! at least for me and the path where I am going =D

After been away for so long, I realise I haven’t really introduced myself. Allow me to re-start the blogging with a brief background of how I started out to be a interactive media developer. Ok, right. When I was a child, I learnt to love games under the influence of my brother (3 years older). Since I was about 7 or 8 years old, I have been playing games from hand held consoles to video games on the television. Boy, do I love it.

Then I was wondering back then “how are these games made?” From then on, I had a dream like most boys at my age; to be a game designer/developer/programmer when I grow up. I began to check out game design courses and harass my brother to teach me programming (did I mentioned he’s a programmer?). He found it to be a hassle to teach me and then I began to learn stuffs on my own. I built my first animation when I was in secondary school (cool huh? lol)

After my secondary school studies, I enrolled myself to a course that teaches multimedia technologies (design/animation/programming etc etc). That was the first official practice I had to become an interactive media developer. I was thrilled. I began to learn things like softwares I haven’t really fully understood when I play around with them by myself.

And then long story short, here I am, in the School of Art, Design and Media, continuing my path to be an interactive media developer as well as a games designer. And for now, sit back and wait for my latest awesome posts! Thanks! Good day!

(This blog is set up by me and maintained by me alone. Everything I mentioned here is of my personal opinion and nobody else’s (unless due to unforeseen circumstances). Basically I blog here to share my thoughts. No hard feelings and sorry for any possible grammatical errors running through my posts.)
